Procedure

Candidates

An overall healthy person, non-smoker or willing to stop smoking for a prescribed period, who wishes to enhance their facial features with a dimpleplasty is a good candidate.
You must have realistic expectations.

Pre-operative

  • You need to undergo lab tests or a medical evaluation.
  • Take specific medications or adjust your current ones.
  • Stop smoking.
  • Avoid aspirin, anti-inflammatory drugs, and herbal supplements, as they can increase bleeding and bruising.

Procedure

The surgical procedure for dimple creation involves making a small incision inside the cheek and then creating a small hole in the underlying muscle. A small suture is then passed through the hole and tied, creating a permanent indentation in the cheek. The incision is then closed with dissolvable sutures.
The procedure is typically done under local anaesthesia.

Post-op Care

Cold compress for the first 48 hours help to reduce the swelling. Anti inflammatory medications help too. For the first 48 hours its best to have a liquid diet with mouth washes every 4 hours to keep the sutures clean. Be sure to avoid playing with the sutures with your tongue until cleared by your surgeon. The sutures fall off by themselves. Semi solid and soft diet is advised for a week.

Recovery

The sutures used to close the incision inside the cheek will dissolve within two weeks of your surgery. However the deeper suture takes about 1-2 months to dissolve, hence you will have a static dimple for at least a month. Once the healing process is complete, the cheek muscle will connect with the skin, and a new, natural-looking dimple will be formed.

Complications

  • Nerve injury
  • Surgical site infection
  • PIH
  • Prolonged swelling of the cheek
  • Loss of dimple
  • Potential requirement for a revision procedure

Yes and this can be discussed with the Dr. Sameer during your consultation.

While dimple creation is a long lasting procedure, it does not mean that all cosmetic dimples are completely irreversible. Dimple creation may be partially reversible.

In the reversal procedure, the tissue in the cheek may be released and the skin separated from the underlying muscle.

No incision is made on the outer cheek so therefore you will not be left with a visible scar. All incisions are made within the mouth.
