Procedure
Candidates
Ideal candidates for lip augmentation are individuals who have naturally thin lips or lips that have thinned with age & desire fuller, more voluminous lips or want to improve the symmetry of their lips.
Suitable candidates for lip reduction are those who feel their lips are disproportionately large for their facial features, experience functional issues due to lip size, such as difficulty eating or speaking & seek a more balanced and harmonious facial appearance.
All are expected to be in good overall health and have realistic expectations about the outcome & without any active oral infections or health conditions that could impair healing.
Pre-operative
- You need to undergo lab tests or a medical evaluation.
- Take specific medications or adjust your current ones.
- Stop smoking.
- Avoid aspirin, anti-inflammatory drugs, and herbal supplements, as they can increase bleeding and bruising.
Procedure
Lip Reduction is a surgical procedure to decrease lip size by removing excess tissue through an incision inside the lip. It reshapes the lips for a more proportionate appearance. The procedure is typically performed under local anesthesia, with sutures used to close the incision.
Lip augmentation enhances lip volume using injectable fillers, fat transfer, or implants. Fillers, often hyaluronic acid-based, are the most common, providing immediate results with minimal downtime. Fat transfer and implants offer longer-lasting effects.
Post-op Care

Recovery
Lip Reduction:
Swelling and bruising subside in 1-2 weeks, with full recovery in several weeks. Most return to work within a week, avoiding strenuous activities for 2-3 weeks.
Lip Augmentation:
Recovery varies by method. Fillers typically heal within a few days; fat transfer and implants may take up to 3-4 weeks for full results.
Complications
