Arm Lift

The arm lift, or brachioplasty, is a popular procedure for enhancing upper-body appearance in both men and women. This minor surgery is ideal for those dealing with sagging skin and excess fat on their arms, especially when diet and exercise haven’t helped. By tightening and toning the arms from underarms to elbows, the procedure creates a more sculpted look.

For more significant fat removal, liposuction can be combined with the arm lift for optimal results. For significant skin contraction BodyTite can help avoid the arm lift in patients.

Procedure

Candidates

Arm Lift is an ideal procedure for both, men and women who –

  • Have loose, sagging, plump arms.
  • Can embrace arm lift scar, which may fade away with time but might never disappear.
  • Do not have medical conditions that may prompt surgical complications.
  • Have maintained stable weight through the recent months.
  • Don’t smoke.

Pre-operative

Before undergoing an arm lift, it’s essential for individuals who are overweight to lose weight, as fluctuations can affect the results. Avoid any medications that act as blood thinners before surgery.

Maintaining a nutritious diet and healthy lifestyle is key, and quitting smoking at least a month prior is highly recommended. Be sure to follow your surgeon’s pre-op instructions carefully to ensure a smooth procedure.

Procedure

Arm lift surgery begins with general anesthesia. The surgeon may make an incision under the arms to remove smaller amounts of fat and skin, or if more extensive work is needed, the incision might extend from the elbow upward. Liposuction may also be performed if required. After excess fat is removed and supportive tissues are repositioned, the arms will appear tighter, smoother, and more toned once healed. Finally, the incisions are closed with sutures and bandaged with sterile gauze to minimize the risk of infection.

Post-op Care

Every surgical procedure calls for great care especially for a few weeks until the pain wound heals.
The post-op care for arm lift will be instructed by the surgeon and sticking to the recommendations might be the best idea for the patient aiming to return to the routine soon.

Regular visits for dressing and post-op check is vital.

Recovery

  • Patient needs to severely commit to eating healthy and taking plenty of rest for speedy recovery.
  • Stressful exercises and weight lifting activities must be avoided.
  • Wearing compression garments is highly recommended in order to avoid major swelling.
  • Elevation of pillows might be of great help in case of discomfort

Complications

Although every minute detail is taken care of by the team of surgeons to avoid any complications post surgery, there are few risks that ‘may’ appear;

  • Problems with wound healing, skin loss, unfavorable scarring.
  • Nerve damage.
  • Fatty tissue under the skin might die (fat necrosis)
  • Fluid accumulation.
  • Numbness or other changes in skin sensation.
  • Persistent pain & swelling in the arms.
  • Possible need for revisionary surgery & recurrent looseness of skin.
  • Results attained post surgery might disappear if the weight is gained again
