Chin Augmentation
Chin augmentation is a cosmetic procedure designed to enhance the size, shape, and prominence of the chin, creating a more balanced facial profile. This popular aesthetic treatment can be achieved through surgical methods, such as the placement of implants, or nonsurgical techniques, like dermal fillers.
The procedure is typically customized to meet the unique needs and aesthetic goals of each patient, offering a transformative solution for those seeking a more defined and proportionate chin. The customisation of the procedure is offered by central chin implants, anatomical chin implants & extended anatomical chin implants. Chin implants provide predictable and permanent results.

Procedure
Candidates
Chin augmentation is sought after by individuals looking to improve facial harmony, address congenital or injury-related deformities, or boost self-confidence. You may opt for a chin augmentation if you perceive an imbalance in facial features, a prominent nose or inadequate chin projection
Pre-operative
- You need to undergo lab tests or a medical evaluation.
- Take specific medications or adjust your current ones.
- Stop smoking.
- Avoid aspirin, anti-inflammatory drugs, and herbal supplements, as they can increase bleeding and bruising.
Procedure
Implants can be inserted either through the mouth (intra-oral positioning) or from below the chin (sub-mental positioning). Both are reasonable options. The main advantage of the intra-oral route is that it does not result in visible scarring.
For aesthetic surgeries using silicone implants, the implants do not usually need to be fixed to the mandibular bone as it is sufficiently secured within the narrow pocket between the bone and the sub-periosteal space (sheet of soft tissue that covers the bone).
Post-op Care
A bandage may be left over the chin to reduce swelling. A small dressing may be used to cover the chin for 7-10 days. Recovery is usually quick and is not associated with excessive pain or discomfort. For the first 48 hours its best to have a liquid diet with mouth washes every 4 hours to keep the sutures clean. Be sure to avoid playing with the sutures with your tongue until cleared by your surgeon. The sutures fall off by themselves. Semi solid and soft diet is advised for a week.
Recovery
Recovery is usually uneventful .Results of chin augmentation are generally associated with a high degree of patient satisfaction. Implants can provide discrete enhancements or significant improvements alike. The average increase in chin projection is 4-8 mm.
Complications
Chin and mandibular implant surgeries are associated with few complications. Revision surgeries often relate to local infections or aesthetic re-contouring (2-3%). Should this be required, implant removal is generally straightforward.

Chin implants are small items made from a biocompatible material, most commonly silicone. The material is moulded to fit perfectly around a patient’s chin, enhancing it in a natural way. Therefore, chin implants come in many sizes and shapes to suit different facial proportions and create proper symmetry. They are also very durable and don’t require replacement.
For those who are not up for surgery and look for minimally-invasive procedures to enhance the look of their chins, surgeons often recommend dermal fillers. These are injected into the chin to contour and reshape it, balancing the appearance more naturally. Dermal fillers are safe and effective and require no downtime. However, not all patients are suited for this treatment type. Each patient should consult a qualified and reliable surgeon before making a decision based on online knowledge.
The chin is hugely responsible for balancing the face and neck. Men are considered more handsome when they have stronger jaws. Women are thought of as more beautiful when their chins are smaller and daintier. However, balance in the chin is important for both genders.
Your trusted surgeon will give you all the necessary instructions, but you’ll most likely need to stop consuming alcohol for at least 48 hours before the surgery. Those who smoke will also be advised to cut on tobacco use two weeks before the surgery because it can slow down healing and increase chances of bleeding. Other than that, a patient should take a good night’s rest the night before the chin augmentation and wash hair thoroughly to minimize infection risks.
Chin augmentation can make the neck look slimmer and more attractive. Sometimes, liposuction or a neck lift may be done alongside the chin procedure to further contour the neck and jawline.
If a nose is larger, it can make the chin appear small. Likewise, a small chin can make the nose look big. With chin augmentation, the nose can look smaller or larger depending on the patient’s facial structure and concerns. With the help of this procedure, the individual’s face can be more proportionate.
