Procedure

Candidates

To be considered for a Brazilian butt lift, you should:

  • Non Smoker
  • Be in good physical health.
  • Have realistic expectations.
  • Have enough excess body fat available in other parts of your body to transfer to your butt.

If you don’t have enough excess body fat available, you may be a good candidate for butt implants.

Pre-operative

In preparing for a buttock augmentation and/or buttock lift, you may be asked to:

  • Get a blood test
  • Take certain medications or adjust your current medications
  • Stop smoking
  • Avoid taking aspirin and certain anti-inflammatory drugs as they can increase bleeding

Procedure

The Brazilian Butt Lift begins by contouring the buttocks through liposuction around the surrounding areas, like the back, flanks and thighs, to enhance the shape. This technique preserves the delicate fat cells for re-injection. Liposuction alone already enhances the lower body’s appearance, but the suctioned fat is carefully processed and purified, with only a small portion qualifying for transfer. To ensure enough viable fat, at least two areas are typically targeted.

The purified fat is then injected into the buttocks using specialized cannulas. Hundreds of micro-injections are made at various depths and locations to achieve a natural, smooth, and uniform shape. This precise method maximizes fat absorption, ensuring long-lasting, beautiful results.

Post-op Care

After Brazilian butt lift surgery, patients will experience some swelling and soreness/pain around the surgical areas easily controlled with oral medications. You will also be encouraged to sleep face down or on your side. When you do have to sit, you will have to use a pillow or cushion placed behind the legs (hamstring muscles) to help raise the buttocks, avoiding pressure onto the fat grafts. We recommend continued use of the pillow for approximately 6 weeks.

Recovery

The patient can generally return to work within 7-10 days. The compression garment must be worn for 4 weeks depending on the extent of the procedure. People generally feel back to normal after approximately four weeks at which time mild exercise may be started.

Complications

  • Asymmetries
  • Bleeding (hematoma)
  • Fatty tissue under the skin might die (fat necrosis)
  • Fluid accumulation (seroma)
  • Infection, Poor wound healing
  • Numbness or other changes in skin sensation

Being overweight does not necessarily disqualify you from getting a BBL, but it can make the procedure more challenging, and it could increase the risk of complications.
If you are significantly overweight, your surgeon may advise you to lose weight before the procedure to reduce the risk of complications and to achieve optimal results.

The ideal body weight for a Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) procedure varies depending on the individual case and the patient’s goals. However, it is generally recommended that patients have a stable and healthy body weight before the procedure.

If a patient is significantly overweight, they may be advised to lose weight before the procedure in order to achieve better results and minimise the risk of complications. This is because having a high Body Mass Index (BMI) increases the risk of complications such as bleeding, infection, and poor healing.

It is generally recommended to avoid sexual activity for at least 2-4 weeks after a Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) surgery. It is important to avoid any pressure or movement on the buttocks area during this time..

The amount of fat needed to achieve results from a Brazilian butt lift will vary depending on the patient’s body type, desired results, and the skill of the surgeon. Generally, a surgeon will transfer anywhere from 500 to 1000cc of fat per buttock to achieve a noticeable result.

It is recommended to avoid strenuous exercise for at least 2-4 weeks after a Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) surgery. This is to allow the transferred fat cells to settle properly and to prevent any damage or bleeding.

The amount of fat that survives after a Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) procedure can vary depending on several factors, including the technique used, the quality of the fat cells, and the patient’s overall health.

On average, about 50-70% of the transplanted fat cells may survive the procedure, although it can vary widely between patients.
