Most people are good candidates for VASER liposuction. A good candidate for liposelection must have realistic expectations about what the procedure can and cannot do for them. An ideal candidate for VASER liposuction can be summarised as one who is:

1. In good health.
2. With a good diet & exercise regime within 15 – 20 kgs of his or her ideal weight.
3. Has firm & elastic skin.
4. Does not have significant medical problems such as diabetes, heart or lung disease, or poor circulation, does not smoke.

VASER liposuction can be used almost anywhere that fat is located, even in delicate areas. Common areas for treatment include:

• Neck and chin
• The underside of the arms
• Chest
• Back
• Flanks
• Tummy
• Buttocks and hips
• Thighs
• Knees and ankles

Make sure to mention any prescription medication you are taking during your consultation. It’s best to stop smoking as soon as possible. Smoking restricts the amount of oxygen in your blood which impedes your body’s ability to heal properly.

Two weeks before your VASER session, you should stop taking medication that thins your blood. The day before your VASER session, you should refrain from drinking alcohol.

VASER liposuction involves injecting a tumescent solution (a mix of saline, anesthetic, and other medications) into the treatment area. This solution causes fat cells to swell and constricts blood vessels, enhancing safety. A small incision is made, and a cannula is inserted, emitting ultrasonic vibrations to break down fat cells. The vibrations loosen and emulsify the fat, allowing it to be easily removed with a specialized VentX® cannula. This technique minimizes tissue damage, preserving blood vessels and nerves, while reducing post-procedural pain due to the lingering anesthetic in the tissue. VASER liposuction’s precision offers smoother, more targeted fat removal with less trauma than traditional liposuction.

You should be able to go home on the same day as your VASER liposuction. Since the procedure is minimally invasive, it can take as little as 2-3 days before you feel back to normal again. The recovery time will vary depending on the areas that have been treated and how much fat has been removed. Your surgeon will help to give you an idea of what to expect.

For the first few days, you may notice a pink-orange fluid leaking from the wound sites, but this is perfectly normal and should resolve on its own. Pain following VASER liposuction is usually minimal, and it is unlikely that you will need strong painkillers.

Some swelling will usually remain around the area for 5-6 weeks and there may also be some bruising or numbness during this time. It is best to avoid heavy lifting for 2-3 weeks following the procedure to allow your body to heal fully.

You will need to wear a special compression garment to help reshape your body for about 6-8 weeks after your VASER liposuction, and your surgeon will be able to provide more information about this. Your surgeon will give you a recovery plan for the best results.

One can reduce the risk of complications by closely following our instructions before and after the surgery, especially with regard to when and how you should resume physical activity. Some of the complications that can occur are the collection of fluid under the skin (seromas) & blood clots. Residual seromas may have to be aspirated. Because LipoSelection® minimizes damage to other body tissues, patients typically experience less pain and fewer side effects than with other forms of ultrasound liposuction. Serious ultrasound liposuction complications are quite rare. Fat clots or blood clots may form. You might develop paresthesias (needle & pins sensations) which might persist for some time.
