Procedure
The procedure is preferably done under GA. Fat transfer for breast augmentation is a minimally invasive procedure that involves two main steps. First, excess fat is harvested from areas such as the abdomen, thighs, or hips through liposuction. This fat is then purified and prepared for injection. In the second step, the surgeon carefully injects the processed fat into the breast tissue to enhance volume and improve shape. The result is a natural-looking augmentation, as the fat integrates with the existing breast tissue.
Post op care
We will wrap an elastic bandage around your chest and fit you with a surgical bra. These bindings help the fat deposits settle into place. You should plan to take a week off from work and other physical activities.
You may have pain, bruising, swelling and discomfort in your breasts and liposuctioned areas for up to three weeks. Swelling may persist for up to six months.
Post-operative care following fat transfer for breast augmentation is crucial for healing and results:
Recovery
- Wear a compression garment on the donor area for 1-2 weeks to minimize swelling.
- Refrain from lying directly on your breasts for 2-4 weeks.
- Avoid strenuous activities and heavy lifting for 4-6 weeks; gentle walking is encouraged.
- Follow prescribed pain management and antibiotic regimens.
- Contact your surgeon if you notice signs of infection or unusual changes.
- Maintain a balanced diet and stay hydrated to aid recovery.
Complications
- Cysts
- Infection
- Microcalcification
- Necrosis (death) of fat cells
- Possibility that some of the transferred fat cells will leave the breast area

Generally, the results of your fat transfer to the breast will be permanent, but the transplanted fat will be subject to the same body changes so it’s important that you maintain your weight. There may also be a change to the appearance of the breasts due to the natural ageing process.
Results from fat transfer are permanent. However, not all fat cells survive the procedure, so you may not achieve the volume you want. It takes about six months for the injected fat cells to develop a new blood supply and to see final results.
After removing excess fat from your belly, hips or thighs, a plastic surgeon can transfer it to several areas. For example, you can have a:
- Fat transfer to your breasts (breast augmentation).
- Fat transfer to your buttocks (Brazilian butt lift).
- Fat transfer to your face.
- Fat transfer to your lips (lip augmentation).
- Fat transfer to your cheeks.
- Under eye fat transfer.
