Can I get a tummy tuck along with C-Section?
The most common question people ask is “Can we perform a tummy tuck immediately after the Cesarean section when the baby is out and the patient is still on the table?” the answer to this question is NO!
It is not advised to perform both surgeries at the same time, because in pregnancy when the baby is delivered the skin gets stretched, and when the baby is removed it gets difficult to measure precisely, how much skin is needed to be removed from the belly.
Another reason to avoid tummy tuck surgery along with a C-section is that after delivery, women have hormonal changes which lead to weight gain. Therefore, it makes it difficult to perform this surgery as it doesn’t give optimum results due to your postpartum weight gain. A tummy tuck requires precise measurements, and that is not possible with a C-section.
Most patients who have undergone pregnancy and C-section need a tummy tuck after a certain period the reason being the same, that the tummy skin is stretched. The muscles are stretched too while pulling the baby out, resulting in poor muscle tone. During C-section when the muscles are separated or cut to deliver the baby, the nerve supply can be hampered making the muscles loose, permanently.
Once the baby is born and nursed properly then you can go for a tummy tuck as soon as possible. The most appropriate period to perform this surgery would be around 8 months to 1 year after the baby is born.
Over time, the mother looses the weight which was gained after delivery, the hormonal status of the body is near normal and the skin is contracts back to a point. This makes it easier for the doctors to take precise measurements to perform the surgery and give the patient the body they desire. A tummy tuck helps a mom to get rid of the post pregnancy pouch, and get back her pre pregnancy body.
